Earthquake in Chile – Death toll climbing (KFDM Beaumont)

TALCA, Chile (AP) – A devastating earthquake has struck Chile, killing more than 120 people.
The latest figure comes from Chile’s president-elect, Sebastian Pinera.
The magnitude-8.8 quake has collapsed buildings and bridges and sent a tsunami racing across the Pacific Ocean.
Roads have been destroyed, and electricity, water and phone lines have been cut to many areas.
In the town of Talca, just 65 miles from the epicenter, Associated Press journalist Roberto Candia said it felt as if a giant had grabbed him and shaken him.
The town’s historic center largely collapsed. Neighbors pulled at least five people from the rubble.
Two-hundred miles away in Chile’s capital, Santiago, a car dangled from a collapsed overpass, the national Fine Arts Museum was badly damaged and an apartment building’s two-story parking lot pancaked, smashing about 50 cars. Several hospitals were evacuated due to damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey says there have been two dozen aftershocks of magnitude 5 or greater and one of 6.9.
