1992 DEREK REDMOND THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT. He is best remembered for his performance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona where he tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final but fought through the pain and, with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. The incident has become a well-remembered moment in Olympic history, having been the subject of one of the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Celebrate Humanity’ videos and been used in advertisements by Visa as an illustration of the Olympic spirit and featured in Nike’s “Courage” commercials in 2008.
Wow! Has the Iowan/LSU grad made 2008 her year!!! After winning the World Indoor Championships in Valencia, she comes back and runs a 12.29 in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles in Eugene, Oregon at the United States Olympic Track and Field Trials. Damu Cherry finishes second with Dawn Harper in third to represent the USA in Beijing. Tom Hammond, Ato Boldon and Carol Lewis are usually in the booth for the great NBC staff with the added help of Ed Eyestone and Lewis Johnson also pitching in. On the track is Dwight Stones (always great) and handling the post race interviews is Bob Neumeier (whom I have been impressed with at this meet, asking quesions that are outside the normal, boring “How does it feel?” questions to every single athlete!).
Usain Bolt capped his spectacular Summer Games by tearing through his portion of the 400-meter relay Friday, setting up Jamaica’s victory in 37.10 seconds to break a 16-year-old world record.
First of all, The loudest race of the Trials by a huge margin! Second of all, Christian Smith is NOT from Oregon. He is a Kansan, born and raised. Now to the race: Oregon grown,Nick Symmonds wins the 800m final at the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials in 1:44.12 with Andrew Wheating of Oregon placing second. In third is a uprooted Kansan in an Oregon uniform, Christian Smith diving for his place on the USA Track and Field Team. GREAT RACE! And Christian Smith is from KANSAS, not Oregon! TheNBC Sports crew is working in the booth with the great voice of Tom Hammond and the analysis and commentary by Ato Boldon and Lewis Johnson. Ed Eyestone, a former Olympian, also helps with the distance events and the great Dwight Stones handles the athlete interviews and the field events as only he can.
Eric Johnson of KOMO Seattle follows Apolo Ohno during his typical daily workout for Olympic training. This man works hard for his gold medals!!! *No copyright infringement intended. I do not own this clip.
